Wirelessworkplace predicts a surge in wireless
network uptake
Cambridge, England, 10/04/2002

Wireless Workplace Ltd, today announces that it
predicts a surge in wireless network uptake.
With BT's recent announcement of its support for
wireless LANs and the expected forthcoming statement from the Radiocommunications
Agency opening up the wireless LAN spectrum for commercial gain, wirelessworkplace
predicts a surge in an already fast -growing market.
Andrew Doe, founder of wirelessworkplace
commented:
"The market for wireless data networking is really
starting to take off. Most of the attention in Europe has been focussed
on mobile networks. But in the USA the IEEE 802.11b or Wi-Fi standard
is well established with a growing number of new operators establishing
networks of public hot spots across the country. This technology is inexpensive
and offers significantly higher bandwidth than cellular networks. Now,
with BT's announcement of its support for wireless LANs we expect to see
even greater growth."
BT has said it will install a network of hot-spots
across the country to provide high-bandwidth internet access for business
users. Many companies are already using or piloting wireless networks
in their offices to enable staff to remain connected to the corporate
network even when away from their desks. Once business users are able
to maintain that access even out of the office or while on business trips,
the network effects are expected to be significant.
"We are seeing tremendous interest in wireless
networking and this BT announcement will only help to drive the market
faster. Our experience shows that once you have used a wireless LAN in
the office, you want access on the road and at home as well. Wireless
LAN really brings massive productivity benefits", added Andrew Doe.
